Reliable combustion depends on more than the injection pump alone. A correctly calibrated pump can only deliver the expected engine performance when the injector and nozzle-holder assemblies are also mechanically sound, correctly matched and operating consistently from cylinder to cylinder. Our marine service is not limited to one pump manufacturer or one engine family. Depending on pump design, condition, technical documentation, spare-parts availability and suitable test-bench adaptation, we assess, overhaul, repair and calibrate mechanical fuel injection pumps from Bosch, LÓrange (also searched as L'Orange), Kugelfischer and other manufacturers. We accept enquiries for mechanical fuel-injection equipment used on all categories of marine engines operating either at fixed speed or across a variable speed range, including main propulsion, auxiliary, generator and other shipboard duties. Common Rail systems are not part of this service scope.
Why Marine Injectors Should Be Assessed as Part of the Complete Injection System
On a marine diesel engine, a worn or contaminated injector may influence atomisation, opening behaviour, leakage and the repeatability of injection. The resulting engine symptoms can resemble an injection-pump fault. For this reason, troubleshooting should not automatically focus on one component in isolation.
- uneven exhaust-gas temperatures between cylinders
- black or grey smoke under load
- hard starting or delayed firing
- irregular combustion and rough running
- reduced power or poor load acceptance
- increased fuel consumption
- cylinder-to-cylinder differences after a pump overhaul
These symptoms can also originate from compression, fuel supply, injection timing, air supply, turbocharging or other engine-related causes. We therefore evaluate the injection equipment within the wider technical context of the engine whenever sufficient information is available.
Injector and Nozzle-Holder Workshop Scope
Depending on injector design, technical data and component condition, our work may include:
- incoming condition assessment and identification
- controlled dismantling of nozzle-holder assemblies
- cleaning of reusable components
- inspection of sealing surfaces, threads, springs and internal parts
- assessment of nozzle condition and needle movement
- leakage and sealing checks
- opening-pressure testing where applicable to the design
- assessment of spray behaviour where suitable test procedures are available
- replacement of worn components when technically appropriate and available
- reassembly and final functional verification
Complete Pump-and-Injector Sets for Engine Overhauls
For planned engine overhauls, dry-docking work and persistent cylinder-balance problems, it can be technically preferable to assess the complete fuel-injection set rather than sending only the component that appears to be defective. We can coordinate inspection of the injection pump together with the related injector or nozzle-holder assemblies so that the fuel-delivery side and the injection side are evaluated as one system.
MWM / Deutz and Other Marine Engine Applications
Our injector work includes applications from the MWM / Deutz marine environment, including engines such as TBD604, TBD620 and TCD2020 where appropriate identification data are available. We also assess injector and nozzle-holder assemblies from other mechanical marine diesel systems. Exact acceptance always depends on the component design, available data and parts situation.
Obsolete Nozzles and Difficult Spare-Parts Situations
Older marine engines are often technically serviceable long after original replacement parts have become difficult to obtain. In such cases we first determine whether existing components can be professionally reconditioned, whether suitable New Old Stock or replacement parts can be sourced, or whether associated mechanical components can be reproduced. Not every nozzle or safety-critical precision component is suitable for reproduction; each case is evaluated individually.
What We Need for an Initial Assessment
Please send the following information before shipping the injection equipment:
- clear photographs of the complete injection equipment and all identification plates
- pump manufacturer, complete pump type and all visible part or reference numbers
- engine manufacturer and exact engine designation
- number of cylinders, rated power and rated speed
- whether the engine operates at fixed speed or over a variable speed range
- marine application: main propulsion, auxiliary engine, generator set or other duty
- direction of rotation, if known
- description of the fault, operating symptoms and previous repair history
- available test sheets, engine acceptance data, manuals or calibration information
- number of injectors or nozzle-holder assemblies to be processed
- photographs of any visible damage, deposits or previous repair markings
International Marine Service from Germany
Components can be sent to our workshop in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, following prior technical acceptance. We support international marine customers with repair-return projects, planned maintenance and component overhaul. Shipping and customs documentation should be coordinated before dispatch, particularly for customers outside the European Union.
